A fifth grader’s essay will be appraised at international contest

Recently, winners of the national stage of the 41st international youth epistolary essay contest were awarded at the Ministry of Transport and Communications. An essay of the prize-winner, a twelve years old Tautvydas Marcinkevičius, will be included in the lists of the contest organized by the Universal Postal Union (UPU) and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

This year schoolchildren have submitted essays on the topic Write a letter to a sportsman or sports representative on significance of the Olympic Games to you. 93 schools participated at the national stage of the contest by sending almost a 100 essays of their students.  
 
At the solemn ceremony, Vice-Minister Rimvydas Vaštakas congratulated participants of the contest. He welcomed the tradition of epistolary essays’ contest, which attracts more schoolchildren with each year.   
 
The International youth epistolary contest is annually held in Lithuania since its inauguration in 1971 by the International Bureau of the World Post Union and UNESCO; its objective is to develop young people's abilities of epistolary writing.
