With the EU aid - rebirth of historical railway bridges
Old bridges on the railway line Klaipėda–Pagėgiai were built in 1865–1875. They contain peculiar architecture, construction materials and have been acknowledged as national cultural value. During the renovation authentic architecture has been meticulously observed and historical heritage requirements have been strictly followed.

The arched stone bridges were reconstructed in an untraditional way, by a quite unique method preserving the authentic exterior. The inside parts of the bridges have been newly equipped – old construction elements were demolished and new entablatures were installed. The implemented technical solution gained the “bridge in bridge” term.

The two metal bridges, the renovation of which has been recently started, are planned to be completed by the end of 2012.

After the completion of all reconstruction works the railway line Klaipėda–Pagėgiai will be adjusted for a more intense traffic. This will enable trains move more rapidly and safely.

Total value of contract works and technical maintenance – 7.8 million LTL, for which the sum of 6.6 million LTL will be allocated from the European Regional Development Fund.

For the improvement of railway infrastructure conditions JSC Lithuanian Railways will fund this year the renovation of five more railway bridges situated on other lines.
