EDUCATION |
In 1970 graduated from Kavarskas secondary school and entered Kaunas Polytechnic Institute (currently – Kaunas University of Technology), faculty of Chemical Technology, which he graduated from in 1975 and acquired the profession of chemical technology engineer of inorganic matter and fertilizers.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE |
From 13 December 2012 – Minister of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania.
|
|
|
1980–2000 worked at JSC „Achema“ (formerly a state-owned company "Azotas“) in Jonava at the following positions: |
|
|
- 1980–1983 – Shift Supervisor, - 1983–1993 – Manufactory Foreman and Head of Laboratory, - 1993–1997 – Deputy Director of the Center for Innovation and Progress, - 1997–2000 – Deputy Director for Commerce, Head of Marketing Department.
|
|
|
2000–2004 – member of Parliament of the Republic of Lithuania. Throughout this term he worked in the Committee on Economics, was in the position of the Vice-President of the Anti-corruption Commission, Chairman of the parliamentary delegation to the Western European Union Assembly.
|
|
|
2004–2008 – Director for Development at the concern "Achema Group“, responsible for the development of the concern in Lithuania and abroad, implementation of strategic projects and new business concepts.

|
POLITICAL ACTIVITY |
A member of Council in Lithuanian Social Democrats Party, Chairman of Jonava division.
|

MARITAL STATUS |
Married. Wife Ligita works as a Chief Specialist at the Environmental Protection Agency under the Ministry of Environment. Son Mindaugas is the Mayor of Jonava district municipality, daughter Rūta is an assistant to Vilnius district court judge.

HOBBIES AND INTERESTS |
Interested in issues of business, ecology (waste management, renewable energy recources, biofuels etc.), economy infrastructure (energy sector, communications, logistics). Hobbies – outdoor activities, gardening, hunting. Foreign languages – English, Russian.
